COMMENTARY: No More Gerrymandering in Maryland!
(ANNAPOLIS - October 27, 2012) - Dear Fellow Marylanders:
It is just over one week away from election day, and we have an excellent opportunity to make history in Maryland. For about 18 months, MCFR and our allies in both parties have worked to overturn the overtly gerrymandered map that is before the voters. As you probably have heard, Comptroller Peter Franchot has announced that he is AGAINST Question 5!
Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike see this map for what it is - an example of partisan gamesmanship that does not care about anyone but the chosen political elite. People all over the state are outraged by this map including Democrats in Montgomery and Prince George's counties as well as Republicans in western Maryland, Anne Arundel and Baltimore Counties.
For once, we have an issue that brings us together! We have only two weeks to spread the word - here is how you can help...
1) Go to our website - Repeal The Gerrymander. We have great information about the map including a video we produced that is clear and concise. Share the video with your contacts.
2) Like our page on Facebook - Repeal The Gerrymander FB Page - The page has all of the updated articles about Question 5 and has a lot of great resources.
3) Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. I have linked my letter from last week that may be helpful to you.
4) Consider sending a contribution to Repeal The Gerrymander. We are truly a grassroots campaign that needs your support for the final two weeks. We are so close to victory. Your support will help us to make history!

The Glover Report: It's Election Time!:
Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.

CHICAGO: Black Star Project: Commencement Remarks By First Lady Michelle Obama for Bowie State University:
But most of all, to the Bowie State University class of 2013, congratulations. (Applause.) Oh, congratulations. You don't know how proud we all are of you. Just look at you. We're so proud of how hard you worked, all those long hours in the classroom, in the library. Oh, yeah. Amen. (Laughter.) All those jobs you worked to help pay your tuition. Many of you are the first in your families to get a college degree. (Applause.) Some of you are balancing school with raising families of your own. (Applause.) So I know this journey hasn't been easy. I know you've had plenty of moments of doubt and frustration and just plain exhaustion. Read in Full >>
