Michelle Obama Rocks DNC
(BALTIMORE - August 25, 2008) - Michelle Obama, quite possibly the next American First Lady, pointed out two historical points to attendees at tonight's opening of the Democratic National Convention: for one, 2008 marks the 88th anniversary of American women being granted the right to vote; and two, that 2008 marks the 45th anniversary of Dr. King’s famous “I Have A Dream Speech.”
With such a backdrop, one can imagine the light and energy as this highly educated woman did a masterful job of telling the world why her husband, the presumptive Democratic nominee – Barack Obama - should be the next President of the United States.
Paying homage to her late father, who died of Multiple Schlerosis, she had to have made him smile from heaven. She sure made me smile. And she sure made me that more optimistic about the future as it relates to my own daughter, to my own son.
To the ardent, stiff and callous political analysts out there who may not have identified with her savvy oratory: ‘Stop hating’!
But for the millions of Americans who could identify with her modest beginnings, her integrity, her faithfulness to God and family, her determination to “get up a little earlier and work a little harder” so as to provide a better life for one’s family – she hit the ball right out of the park. She won an Olympic gold medal for the simple art of caring and sharing.
Yes, I am motivated. And yes, it is official. America has reached a new height. It is beginning to finally reckon with its lopsided past and beginning anew with refreshed ideals and a better application of the principles upon which this nation was founded.
Tonight, Michelle Obama made it absolutely and unequivocally clear: Move over, Laura. A new First Lady is here!
