President Barack Obama is Now the 44th President of the US
I only wish my mother and father were here to see this magnanimous occasion. Like many of you, we have all lost loved ones over the years – loved ones we wish could see this glorious spectacle. Be not weary, my friends. For they are indeed with us and holding our hands from heaven.
(BALTIMORE - January 20, 2009) - It is done. It is official. Despite the naysayers, the cynics, and the doubters – the world served as witness that a black man named Barack Hussein Obama is now the 44th President of the United States of America.
A brotha – and his lovely wife – will now occupy the White House, will ride on Airforce One, and will carry the mantle of leadership such that this world has never known.
One couldn’t watch President Barack Obama’s inaugural speech and not shed a tear. I know I did.
And now, all Americans can be proud. Despite the economic and military challenges before us, despite the slippery slopes of racism out of which we were born, despite the selfishness we have all come to know all too well – this is a new day where we can embrace our differences and better realize the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., John Brown, Frederick Douglass, and Abraham Lincoln.
And from an in-group perspective, black folks especially must up the game. No longer can we use racism as a crutch on which to fall. Why? Because we now have a black president. And no, President Obama cannot and shouldn’t be expected to be a savior nor a magician who can wave a wand and make all of the problems disappear.
However, today’s event sends a message to the world that America is still great, America is still on point, and that America is once again ready to lead the world in this 21st century.
I only wish my mother and father were here to see this magnanimous occasion. Like many of you, we have all lost loved ones over the years – loved ones we wish could see this glorious spectacle. Be not weary, my friends. For they are indeed with us and holding our hands from heaven.
God bless President Obama, his family, and his cabinet. And God bless America.

Someone once presented a blessing in this manner: "May you live in interesting times." None could be more interesting than these. An African-American now sits in the world's most significant seat of power. And he is an honorable and godly man. We know that's true because if the powers that be could have found any true dirty on him or his wife, we would all know about it. With Doni, I bless the man, his family and his cabinet. May they do the work God has assigned them for this time and may we all - Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, etc., benefit from it. On January 20, 2009, for the very first time, I acknowledged that I am an American citizen. I can thank Barack for that.
