TGR: 9-1-1 for the Democrats
Scrap the Convention; Focus on McCain
(BALTIMORE - June 9, 2008) - Firstly, kudos to Sen. Hillary Clinton for doing the right thing: Endorsing Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States. She should be commended for finding the humility and wherewithal in her soul. It had to be difficult. She fought like a lioness.
Now, Sen. Barack Obama - whether he believes he can trust her or not - especially considering she was willing to do just about anything to win the Democratic nomination, has to do the right thing … if he, in fact, plans to win the presidency and set this nation on a forward course: Choose Hillary as his running mate.
Philosophically, given how bad the Republican Party has faired under George Walker Bush, the Democrats’ victory should be a no-brainer. However, the Democrats cannot forget that the Republicans play to win. For them, losing is not an option. They will pull out every trick, every caveat, every morsel of bad press just to stay in power.
That’s it!
The Democrats need to know that now is not the time to party or celebrate.
In last night’s NBA Championship Game #2, the Boston Celtics had the L.A. Lakers down as much as 22 points or so. However, they almost blew the game because they got relaxed.
All throughout the Democratic Party’s world, there is so much talk about August 9th and the pending Democratic National Convention in Denver.
WARNING to the Democrats: Don’t get comfortable. Just like the Lakers came back, so will the Republicans - and with a vengeance.
The Democrats must find some internal fortitude, and be about the business of defining the Republicans - all the while exploiting every possible weakness the right-wingers have. And, the Democrats, I believe, must do it now and not let up until the election in the fall.
The Democrats have the Republicans on the ropes and cannot allow the Republicans to even breath. To do so could mean the presidency will go to John McCain.
I say, scrap the convention and get on with the race. The Democrats don’t need a conference, a party, a coming together for the sake of nostalgia. The Dems need to focus on one thing and do it now: Beat the Republicans. Right now should be all about getting the vote out. Secondly, it should be about earning Republican supporters. Point blank and period.
