Be inspired! Help grow a black business today!

(BALTIMORE – January 19, 2010) – When I think back to a recent conversation with the former State Senator of the 44th state legislative district, Clarence Mitchell, III, I am reminded of the joyous benefit that comes from a life of service.
One might not get the most lucrative salary for such humanitarianism; however, from service comes a joy that not even money can buy.
At the same time, the persistent entrepreneur can do both: He/she can help people and help themselves simultaneously. Zig Ziegler, the noted mouthpiece for 'sell, sell, sell', says that as we help others reach their goals, we also better our chances of reaching our own goals.
Such is the joy I experience everyday as publisher of www.bmorenews.com.
Last Thursday, utilizing the concept of strategic partnerships taught to me by Michael Preston and LaRian Finney, BMORENEWS once again held our monthly business networking session.
This particular event at the Douglass-Myers Museum in Historic Fells Point focused on the concept of “power marketing in the 21st century”. To me, for 45 or so individuals to come out and network for the sake of business on a cold winter evening in January is huge. To say the least, as an entrepreneur, I am encouraged. Despite a bum economy, I was reminded that somebody out here is making money. Somebody out here is staying on the grind and is relentless in their pursuit of the American dream. Sales happen everyday. So, even though things might be a little rough, African Americans have seen worse. The African American, typically a descendant of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, has endured some of the most debilitating of circumstances and has gone on to become the CEO. That’s major!
When I think of my colleagues who have opened companies, like Debra Keller and Thomas Hardnett, I am encouraged to know that I can do the same.
Fact: Nobody said it would be easy. However, between Baltimore and DC, there is an estimated annual disposable income of $45 billion for black folks. That says to me that we, who have been sitting on bags of gold and making other people rich, can accomplish anything. And although we have had our share of disappointments, I know that God is more than able to sustain us.
If you are encouraged, feel free to share your excitement. Write us and tell us about why you insist on being successful. We promise to publish your words of encouragement.
Additionally, please RSVP for the Ray Haysbert Awards on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 during Baltimore’s Black Business Week as we celebrate a living legend, Mr. Raymond V. Haysbert, Sr.
Remember, we already have everything we need in order to be successful. All we have to do is apply ourselves, love each other, and work cooperatively toward a better end.
Be inspired, friend. And help grow a black business today!

Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith Endorses Zirkin, Cardin, Morhaim, Stein, Almond:
The Team responded, "Jim Smith has served in all three branches of government: legislative, judicial, and executive, so he has wide experience and perspective. He knows the candidates and the issues, and, frankly, as he's not running for office, he has no political obligations except to speak his mind. So his endorsement means a great deal to us, and we very much appreciate his support and his vote of confidence." Read in Full >>

TGR: Guest Editorial: Fred's Army ... on the Eastern Shore of Maryland:
"...Two years of stalling tactics by the County Council prevented completion of the statue by Fred’s Army. Currently, Talbot County and Easton elected officials have placed obstacles in the pathway of Fred’s Army that are undoubtedly based on the racist attitudes of its members,” said Jackson-Amis. Council tactics have refused to allow the African American Archeologists, Dr. Anna Agbe-Davies and Alexandra Jones access to the courthouse grounds to complete a required survey. Constantly, the Council changed the design requirements for the statue and after Fred’s Army had fully complied with the changes directed by Council, it then refused to give permission for the installation of the statue.
