TGR: Congrats to Baltimore's Newest Bishop: St. Martin's Kevin Daniels
Mfume delivers keynote at Martin's West celebration banquet
(BALTIMORE - October 26, 2009) - St. Martin's Church of Christ, Inc.'s Episcopal Senior Pastor Kevin Daniels was all smiles yesterday as a host of supporters shared kind words about his love for his church, his passion for the community, and his commitment to the youth. Delivering the keynote was none other than Kweisi Mfume, former Congressman and former NAACP President and CEO.
St. Martin's, located on Madison at North Avenue, is located right between Druid Heights and Madison Park. Hence, it is innately entrenched in the neighborhood and, even more, has a vested interest in seeing community projects succeed. Similarly, Bishop Daniels' love for the community is plain for all to see.

A state of emergency: National Guard in hummers
By Doni Glover, www.bmorenews.com
"The same ol' story in New Orleans" - Jay Z
(BALTIMORE - February 9, 2010) - According to one Baltimore City Police officer stationed in Sandtown, downtown is plowed, Baltimore County is plowed, Carroll County is plowed (he lives there), but he didn't understand why communities - like in West Baltimore - were still left undone.
Fender-benders are not uncommon. The perpetual struggle between pedestrian rights and drivers' fear of getting stuck is ubiquitous. The question remains: Does anybody care about less affluent communities in one of the richest state's in the nation?
Yeah, yeah! We heard the governor announce there would be no additional funds for snow plowing.
Maybe we have to appeal to Pres. Barack Obama to send "state of emergency" dollars directly to municipalities ... like Baltimore. Or, maybe directly outsource dollars to snow removal companies. Whatever the case, this is some bull feces.
In a city where citizens get taxed to death for everything from parking tickets to cell phones, where is the love? Like the songwriter sings, "Ain't no love in the heart of the city!"

I first met and heard Bishop/Dr. Kevin Daniel, at our ( The National Center for Health Behavioral Change) National Symposium on Faith, Spirituality & Health. We serve together as Senior Fellows in the national center ( www.nchbc.org) and in a very short period I realized just how special this young man is. So Baltimore, if you are looking for a native son for mayor with "street cred" (he grew up on and around North Avenue, and is known for his expertise in martial arts),and he is pastor of a church in the "Hood", which provides services to the community all week long. He is a college professor ("Dr."), he is spiritually astute, compassionate, and brings a great "self presentation", and has wonderful mother who is still here to help guide him. This Brother is "sharp",and he is a pastor of a "healthy" church with a youth ministry that is growing and thriving. Am I impressed?!! You bet I am. I am glad to be his colleague and friend.
