TGR: George Zimmerman Freed on $1 Million Bond
By Doni M. Glover, www.bmorenews.com
(BALTIMORE - July 5, 2012) - I was cautioned in the beginning of the Trayvon Saga that it could happen. In the heat of it, I thought, “No way!” Everybody was putting on hoodies – including people in other countries. Then, an arrest finally came. Then there was the issue of the relatively low bail – considering what happens to black people typically in murder cases. Then came George Zimmerman’s release. Mind you – all the while – media fatigue is setting in on a population that was otherwise motivated. And best believe, the defense attorneys know how to work that to their advantage.
And so, the judge finds out that Zimmerman and his wife have collected a substantial amount of money. And today’s latest, Zimmerman is released on a million dollar bail.
Let’s not forget this is relative to Sanford, Florida – not necessarily the nicest place for black folks historically.
Today, the momentum of international interest in Trayvon’s murder is peripheral at best. The Miami Heat may have done well, but there is still not justice for Trayvon Martin – a kid with some Skittles. And an iced tea.

The Glover Report: It's Election Time!:
Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.
