TGR: Missed Trash Day Yields Code Enforcement

Well, let's just lay out the facts folks: Many Baltimoreans must have forgotten that yesterday was a holiday. Why? Because so many put their trash out for the regularly scheduled pick-up.

In communities throughout Baltimore, Baltimore City's Code Enforcement found reason to stick tags on these heaps of trash that are truly an eye-sore.

Citations were being put on trash throughout today. When asked, one city worker told BMORENEWS that she was "putting in a work order."

Many locals forgot that yesterday (Wed., Nov. 11, 2009) was Veteran's Day and that there would be no trash pick-up.

Trash is making Baltimore pretty ugly

(BALTIMORE - November 12, 2009) - Well, let's just lay out the facts folks: Many Baltimoreans must have forgotten that yesterday was a holiday. Why? Because so many put their trash out for the regularly scheduled pick-up.

In communities throughout Baltimore, Baltimore City's Code Enforcement found reason to stick tags on these heaps of trash that are truly an eye-sore. Further, a lot of bulk trash is also being targeted.

Earlier this week, residents of West Lafayette Avenue told me that they truly miss the 2-day a week pick-up that was in place for years. They explained how now - they only hope the trash truck will come through their West Baltimore neighborhood. I got the impression that they had not seen a trash truck in a long time. When I asked what they do now, they did not reply.

Some might argue that if the 2-day per week pick-up were still in place, things would be easier on residents and businesses alike.

Lately, I have heard several complaints of "the City" going through people's trash looking for anything with an address. Why? So they can send a citation, of course. That's right: Another reason to "pick-up" and move out of the city!

In short, Baltimore has a trash problem that is only getting worse. I don't know who actually gets the blame, but something needs to be done ... today.

Here's to a cleaner, greener city!
