TGR: OPERATION LOCKDOWN
Eric Stewart: From Mortgages to EMedia
By Doni Glover, www.bmorenews.com
“Ye shall know them by their fruits” – Matthew 7:16
(BALTIMORE – June 26, 2009) – In the black community, we have more than our share of ills, negative socio-economic factors, political faux pas, underachievement and overall acceptance of mediocrity.
And it doesn’t stop there. He is toiling arduously every single day to develop new show ideas, branding his work all the while along the way. All I can say is "watch out, Oprah!"
Yet, despite what can seem like a bleak horizon in this journey we call life, every now and then we meet a person who is the epitome of the greatness inside us as a people.
Smooth, methodical, all-encompassing and ever-learning – Eric Stewart is one of the gems produced by the Baltimore City Public School system in a city considered by some as terribly murderous.
For the past 5 ½ years, Stewart has been on WOLB 1010 AM talking about mortgages. That’s his first business. Apparently, it has served him well – in more ways than one.
As an entrepreneur, I could so relate to him when his dad, Charlie, told me how Stewart’s other company, EMedia, took root. Essentially, when you are attempting to promote your business, you have to hire marketing and advertising firms to make you look good. However, many of us come to find that such firms are doing a lot of the things for us that we can actually do better – that is, if you have a knack for it.
The 1982 Northwestern High School graduate probably got tired of paying people to do what he felt he could do better and for less. In short, one thing led to another and before you knew it, Stewart is producing The Marc Clarke TV show on Channel 24.
And it doesn’t stop there. He is toiling arduously every single day to develop new show ideas, branding his work all the while along the way. All I can say is "Watch out, Oprah!"
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, from special events to weekend staycations for couples to tapping the DC media market – keep your ears to the ground. There is a new media sheriff afoot – and he is building a classy empire that is about to go national – and then global. EMedia: Mark my word: This is the new kid in the grand world of media who is leading the way.
One final note. Last week, I heard a radio sermon where a preacher man said that you know you have the Holy Spirit when you are helping empower others. If that be true, Stewart is truly doing God’s work on earth.
Congratulations, Eric, Charlie, and all involved who are stamping EMedia’s brand across the globe.

TGR: Will Leronia Josey Make County History?:
Baltimore County Councilman Ken Oliver could have his hands full this election season - that is, if Ms. Josey decides to put her bid in for his seat. While Oliver is the first black to serve on the County Council, a loss to Josey would make her the first black woman to serve on the Baltimore County Council - a crew that consists mostly of white males. Move over, guys!
A black president; a possible black governor; seems only logical to me.

Jim Morrison said that ‘whoever controls the media controls the mind!’ Yet today’s media has seemed to have shifted it’s interest from responsible investigative reporting to a more instant on-demand format of sound bytes and hybrid headlines.
From the advent of social media tools such as YouTube and Facebook to the reduction in senior staff and publications of print media, the lack of real journalism has ceased to exist. However who is truly to be blamed, the reporters’ who spew the untruth without proper fact checks or the consumers of such information who propagate this gossip as factual?

Despite all that is messed up, I am taken back to grandma’s favorite hymn, #325, in the good ol’ Baptist Hymnal: “We’ll understand it better bye and bye.” I’m taken back to the praying man’s visit every Monday at 4 pm and the long, long prayers he would utter. I think of drinking tea and eating Graham crackers with grandpop before grandma got home.
Friends, it is easy to focus on the negative. It is easy to throw the towel in on life. It is easy to concede, to give up, to quit. I don’t know about you, but I refuse to do so. I just can’t. I won’t. There is a certain sense of entitlement of expanded territory that I simply demand of myself and those around me, as ordained by God. I say, mediocrity is for the lame. This kid here expects the very best that God has to offer. Come hell or high water, I’ll just have to take the hits; but progress, I insist, is imminent.
