(GREENBELT – August 22, 2012) – As BMORENEWS.com is gearing up for its 10th Anniversary celebration in Prince George’s County, we're so proud to announce our keynote is none other than Delegate Aisha Braveboy, Esquire - Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus of MD. Also, I’d be totally remiss if I didn’t mention my big brother/mentor in business who has been there for me every step of the way. His name is Mr. William Hopson, CEO of Icetech, and we first met in my beloved Sandtown community in Historic West Baltimore. He's the guy that gave me my first taste of Gorgeous Prince George's. After visiting Woodmore, I have never been the same.
He ran the computer system at the Sandtown-Winchester Transformation Project where I worked for nearly a decade as the editor of the Sandtown-Winchester ViewPoint Newspaper. Over the years, he would become one of the very special people God has allowed me to know and love. His firm, Baltimore-based Icetech, is a stellar example for any business person out there. I should add that I love the fact that he hires people in the community. That’s way up there in my book as a sign of a great person. It is one thing to create an opportunity for one’s self. It is another thing to create opportunities for others to put food on their tables as well. Huge!
Their mission has a dual purpose: one, as a cutting edge network integrator firm specializing in networking, development of advanced information systems and providing high quality cost effective technical solutions to both public and private sectors.
Additionally, Icetech aims is to serve as a hub for the community’s ongoing efforts in the areas of empowerment, economic and social development.
Where some people talk about supporting their community – and I do mean in Baltimore City, Will Hopson walks the walk. One thing I’ve learned from his is about working together and teamwork. He’s about cross-promoting. And I love that, because I’m the same way. Even more, the beauty of Saturday’s event is that Hopson will be in the building.
Also in the house on Saturday is Prince George’s own Delegate Aisha Braveboy, Esquire - the new Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland. This is one black elected official of whom we all can be proud. She is about her business. She will take a stand. She will speak up when necessary. And, to top it off, she is young and vibrant.
After all, how else do you get to such a prominent leadership position of the most esteemed black political group in the state?
Delegate Braveboy is an accomplished lawyer with over ten years of real estate, legislative and government contracts experience. Currently, Delegate Braveboy is in private practice and represents clients in corporate and real estate matters.
In 2006, Ms. Braveboy was first elected to represent the 25th Legislative District in the Maryland General Assembly, and then again in 2010. She is assigned to the House Economic Matters Committee, where she serves as Chair of the Consumer Protection Subcommittee. She is also a member of the Women's Caucus.
Delegate Braveboy has received numerous recognitions for her work as a lawyer and as a legislator. She received the 2011 Rising Star award in Super Lawyers Magazine, a publication that features lawyers who have made significant contributions in their field; and was also named the 2011 Legislator of the Year by the Prince George’s County Young Democrats. She has also been honored by the NAACP, the Family Crisis Center, the Washington DC Building Trades Council, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and many other organizations. She is the creator and sponsor of the Prince George’s County Community Association Conference, an annual conference that informs and empowers residents living in communities throughout the County.
Ms. Braveboy is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, where she joined the Eta Beta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She is also a graduate of Howard University School of Law.

The Glover Report: Will Anthony Brown Look Out for Black People?:
My question: What did you get for your support? Another question: Given the high level of advocacy of a then-Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele – a black Republican, has Brown spoken up for African Americans in a similar fashion since he’s been Lieutenant Governor? Read in Full >>

The Glover Report: It's Election Time!:
Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.
