TGR: Sacrificing for Success: Lessons from the entrepreneur
As for me, I choose life. And choosing life means choosing success … in every single aspect of life: home, family, church, business, and community.
(BALTIMORE – February 6, 2009) – Each and every single person is ultimately faced with the magnanimous question of what’s actually important in life. Whether it is in the midnight hour or while we are daydreaming, the question ultimately becomes: What is most worth our time and energy? Ourselves? Our dreams? Our wishes? Our hopes? Our fears? Our destiny? Our successes?
It is in these weary but classical moments that we are faced with a decision. And that is essentially of life or death proportions. And the fact is that nobody can make that decision for you ... but you.
And it manifests in everything we do.
As for me, I choose life. And choosing life means choosing success … in every single aspect of life: home, family, church, business, and community.
Let me explain. We go to school, we work hard, and we find our lot in life. And in the process, we come to love things and the places – things we never before had. However, if we don’t watch out, we could easily miss the people we so truly love.
Mainly, we could easily overlook the children.
My hope is that through this perilous but glorious journey called life, we could somehow find a way to communicate to the children and the other people we so adamantly love that they are the reason we do what we do, and that nothing could ever prevent our love from shining.
So, for the entrepreneurs out there – particularly as we are about to celebrate the 6th Annual Baltimore Black Business Week, be sure to take a moment and say lovely things to your spouse and your young ones. Let them know you love them and that they are the reason you exist.
Although the fight may be troublesome, bumpy, and totally uncomfortable – there is a special blessing for the black entrepreneur in America. You just have to find it. After all, if it was easy, everybody would be doing it!
