The Glover Report: Checkmate and Back on the Map

(BALTIMORE – October 20, 2008) - Samuel Chase, William Paca, Thomas Stone, and Charles Carroll of Carrollton were the four Marylanders who signed the historic document that we, as Americans, so fondly call The Declaration of Independence. One could only imagine the ambience of the moment. At last, freedom was present. Finally, this country could lift up from the oppression of taxes during the days of England’s King George III.
One might note that it was the Boston Massacre of 1770 that set things off and that Crispus Attucks, a middle-aged black man, was the first casualty of what we now know as the American Revolution. By the way, he was noted as being a mulatto.
Today, a man we could also classify as mulatto is on the verge of stepping into history … and the White House. And with yesterday’s cosmic endorsement from retired General Colin Powell, Senator Barack Obama has all but sealed victory come November 4, 2008. Likened by pundits to Cicero, Obama gets it. Undeniably American, I think he is the realization of the hopes and dreams of countless freedom fighters like Attucks. As noted by right-winger Armstrong Williams, the hand of God is upon him.
Speaking of the right-wing, and given their countless dissertations of late on ignorance and denial, I wonder what right wingers will do after Obama is elected as Commander-in-Chief of this nation by 13 points (one for each of the original colonies). They have all but called him a nigger. When truth be told, Obama’s destiny is the culmination of centuries of struggle, hard work, and sacrifice by lovers of truth who dared to call themselves American.
We have materialized into a consumer nation, selfish with all of the trimmings of privilege, stained with the letter of Hester Prynne and yet, despite ourselves, the unspoken prayers of countless grandmothers and grandfathers is soon to be explored. Finally, the sins of the past will be forgiven and wiped as white as snow as this nation, one under God, has finally matured and finally become the adult it was birthed to be – way back at a Tea Party in Boston.
What, I ask, will right-winged radio do once John McCain, a good and decent American hero, loses his Presidential bid? What will they discuss? Or, will they bury their heads in the unforsaken sands of forgetfulness and time, and pray to our God for mercy. Lo and behold, this nation can return to the path and seek out its truth as outlined in the Declaration of Independence. Finally, my little girl and my little boy can be truly educated to the fact that if they work hard, if they are committed, if they put the community before themselves, they too can grow up and become President of the greatest nation on earth. Europe will soon follow this leader and blackness will no longer be a dirty word, brown skin will no longer be denied, and the prison industrial complex will be transformed into tech academies for little black boys with too much energy.
I’d like to thank God for this moment in American history where good white Americans are now erasing the crimes of the past, the torture and the lynchings and the rapes and the murders of otherwise innocent Americans who simply wanted to feed their families. After having searched deep and far into their souls, these true Americans have come to realize that we have loved war for far too long, that our international reputation is diminishing faster than the stock market, and that, simply put, racism’s Scarlet Letter is just too damn ugly … and doesn’t match the concept of common sense. Forty three white men have led this nation, and the current one has done everything possible to equate his name with selfishness by leading this country down a pathway of lies and tears and bloodstained funerals. Alas and selah, the truth is finally known: America can elect a black man as President.

CMS or what?:
Recently, I've had several conversations with clients on the benefits of moving their web sites to a web content management system or CMS. I currently use Wordpress for my web site, but I have also used Joomla, Drupal, Expression Engine, and Simple Updates. For a list and description of some popular CMS software go to CMS Critic, this by no means lists every system, but it does a good overview of many systems. I am a big fan of open-source CMS, but as long as you use one, it will be a good step in the right direction. Read in Full >>

TGR: Walk to Cure Diabetes by Lakrisha White:
My son, Jay, has been living with type 1 diabetes for a little over a year now. He's managing his diabetes with an insulin pump. Last fall he met with Senator Mikulski as part of JDRF's Promise to Remember Me Campaign. The campaign consists of coordinated meetings where children and teen diabetics are able to share their personal stories face-to-face with members of Congress so lawmakers can hear first hand about living with type 1 diabetes. TGR: Will Leronia Josey Make County History?:
Baltimore County Councilman Ken Oliver could have his hands full this election season - that is, if Ms. Josey decides to put her bid in for his seat. While Oliver is the first black to serve on the County Council, a loss to Josey would make her the first black woman to serve on the Baltimore County Council - a crew that consists mostly of white males. Move over, guys!
A black president; a possible black governor; seems only logical to me.
