The Glover Report: EARLY VOTING NOT DETERRRED BY SANDY AFTERMATH, SUPPRESSION
By Doni Glover, www.bmorenews.com
“What the devil meant for evil, God turned into good.”
(BALTIMORE – October 31, 2012) – Dr. Ray Winbush was pleasantly surprised this morning as he entered the polls for early voting in Maryland. At 7:35 am, according to Morgan State University’s Director of the Institute for Urban Research, there were a couple hundred people - most of whom were black - in line. A half-hour later, he said there were another 200 – pumped and eager to vote.
“I asked one lady why she was voting and she said that initially, she wasn’t going to vote,” he said. “When I asked her why, she said she wasn’t sure her vote would make a difference. And then she said that all of this voter suppression news prompted her to vote anyway.”
The Republicans have been in the news for voter suppression. Laws that deter people from voting, such as requiring state-issued identification, made national news last summer.
“I think it backfired,” said Dr. Winbush, an active member of the Baltimore community. He said that two white poll workers seemed shocked to see so many black people voting.

The Glover Report: It's Election Time!:
Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.
