Is the Price of Party in Baltimore worth your Life? The latest acts of violence in Baltimore has inspired for many that exact question. Baltimore continues to smell with the Demonic fumigation of Desperation, to decay with the Invocation of Ignorance and to self-destruct with seldom acknowledged leech of Low Self Esteem and this countless act of violence is merely a bi-product! However, what does that have to do with a Party. The answer is nothing and everything.
The Baltimore Entertainment Scene is again under fire and the sad part about it is, it is guilty of nothing!! First and foremost I point out to you that the latest 2 shootings outside or near club venues have been by the police! They have not been random. They have not been at the hand of some career criminal, some three time loser, some "thug". They have been by trained individuals who have been hired to uphold the law and these beautiful precious lives have been as a result of reaction from an individual who in some deranged/ strange way believes that this is the proper response.
I argue that the perception of Black Aggression is more harmful then Aggression itself. I will say it again, "The Perception of Black Aggression is more dangerous, more destructive, more sadistic, and unfortunately more deadly than Aggression itself". I say to my friends and colleagues we have a problem. Zeke, Marcy, Phil, DCompton, Jazzy, Diwee, Tracy, Harold, Errol, D-Hov, Mark Baltimore, and the many others that I don’t have the time and the space to name, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!
Make no doubt about it, "OUR PROBLEM IS NOT VIOLENCE IN OR AROUND OUR EVENTS" Our problem is the overall Perception of Black Life and in particular Black Entertainment. I argue that this unfortunate event would have never happened in Canton because the Perception of a disagreement in Canton is that an extreme ending is at most a fist fight and/or a disorderly conduct charge. As human beings, we are programmed to perceive a problem and perceive a resolve. If there is a problem, at a non-black establishment, it’s just kids being kids. If there is a problem at an establishment attended by blacks.. the perception is SOME ONE May HAVE TO DIE! If they are not gonna’ do it with in the context of the problem itself (visa vie the people having the conflict)...here comes the exaggerated arm of the law with Guns Locked and Loaded. This is ridiculous and this perception in particular by the POLICE that "Black Life is not Worthy of Life Itself" must not change but must be destroyed!!
Until this perception is destroyed, everything that we work so hard to build will be in jeopardy. Every website, every email, every tag, every flyer, every everything has to become a campaign that shifts the perception of Black Life. Not just to Non-black persons but most importantly to Black People themselves. I am not certain but I would argue that the victims were all black and the shooters were also. Unfortunately the shooters were the people that we call the POLICE!
Venue owners please demand that your patrons be treated with the same respect, the same dignity, the same honor, the same way you would demand of it if your business was in Canton. Your security should be an extension and a reflection of the reverence that you have for the people that support you. Security/Police can’t be the problem. If we can't call the LAW, then who will we call to protect us and enforce our right to the Pursuit of Happiness.
The Promoter community in Baltimore City has done everything in its power to make Adult Entertainment in Baltimore Safe. We have worked diligently to create a multitude of Events, Parties and Experiences where people can meet, greet and enjoy the best environments as well as the best in people that this region has to offer. Our Events are attended by prominent politicians, prominent business personnel, prominent mothers, fathers, prominent educators, prominent athletes, etc. We are not corralling a bunch of thugs, turning the lights down low, taking people's money and escaping before there is a fight or else. We are participating in changing the way the world views Baltimore City. Police, we need you to do your part. We are not the enemy! If I am not mistaken, this happen as a result of traffic dispute in a parking lot. In the words of my good friend Mark Fuller, this same over reaction could have happen at your school, at your job or even at your church. The problem is with the Perception of Black Life! The Price of Party shouldn't cost you your life and with us it never does. Continue to support adult nightlife entertainment in Baltimore.
My heart leaks for those individuals and their families. Our lives shouldn't be mirrored with pain.
