Dr. Dolores Garcia-Blocker to be Recognized at June 15th BMORENEWS Global Forum on Women's Empowerment:
During Dr. Garcia-Blocker’s tenure at the Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School, she led a process to change the school’s culture by demanding excellence for and from everyone. At the end of Dr. Garcia-Blocker’s fourth year as principal, the US News and World Report in 2008 listed Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School as one of the best high schools in the United States. This recognition was given the following year as well. Additionally, Dr. Garcia-Blocker was twice recognized for closing the achievement gap at the school. Read in Full >>
Wanda Watts to be Honored at BMORENEWS' Global Forum on Women's Empowerment, 6.15.12:
Wanda Watts has over 25 years of professional experience in marketing and sales and as a Community Advocate involving HIV/AIDS, Health disparities which impact the African American community and Senior issues.
Ms. Watts served as staff for the Baltimore City Council Commission on HIV/AIDS for 1 year and as staff for the Baltimore City Commission on HIV/AIDS for 7 years. Working with the Commissions helped bring attention to the staggering number of HIV/AIDS cases in Baltimore City. She was also the City-wide Project Manager for BET’s “Rap It Up” campaign at Morgan State University. Over 2500 middle and high school students and their parents attended the all-day session and BET complimented the program by running their “RAP IT UP” TV campaign on air for 3 months.
While working with Mayor Sheila Dixons office she served as the City-wide coordinator for the Center for Disease Control Business/Labor Responds to AIDS. This initiative worked with local businesses and unions to bring about awareness of HIV/AIDS to their employees and their clients.
Shontel D. Hightower to be Honored at BMORENEWS Global Forum on Women's Empowerment:
The lasting lesson she learned from the tough times was that God is in control no matter what she has been through or will go through in life. If she truly submitted her life to Christ, she can experience life again and have joyous times continually.
