Good mornng all! Yesterday was an interesting day, indeed. This weekend, I write this post from Washington, D.C. I am in town for the 42nd Annual Legislative Conference. The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation is holding a four day event, which started this Wednesday. The theme for this conference is Inspiring Leaders and Building Generations, and I noticed that much of it was geared towards youth and civic engagement. Almost from the moment I arrived I felt uneasy. Despite having covered funerals for Rosa Parks and other great Black achievers, Lighty's funeral seems different. Perhaps it's because I have so much information that I cannot release. Maybe it's because the day before the funeral I went to the location (to do a standard "dry run" and scope out parking and the like) but was mistaken for a family member. Londel's Restaurant served as the perfect host for the 2012 Black Pack Party on Wednesday, June 6th. Now in its sixth year - publishing professionals, writers, and new media leaders gathered in Harlem, NYC to mix, mingle, and have a good time. Once again, the room was filled to capacity as the sixth anniversary of the event continued to grow in attendance and importance.

Wanda Watts has over 25 years of professional experience in marketing and sales and as a Community Advocate involving HIV/AIDS, Health disparities which impact the African American community and Senior issues.
Ms. Watts served as staff for the Baltimore City Council Commission on HIV/AIDS for 1 year and as staff for the Baltimore City Commission on HIV/AIDS for 7 years. Working with the Commissions helped bring attention to the staggering number of HIV/AIDS cases in Baltimore City. She was also the City-wide Project Manager for BET’s “Rap It Up” campaign at Morgan State University. Over 2500 middle and high school students and their parents attended the all-day session and BET complimented the program by running their “RAP IT UP” TV campaign on air for 3 months.
While working with Mayor Sheila Dixons office she served as the City-wide coordinator for the Center for Disease Control Business/Labor Responds to AIDS. This initiative worked with local businesses and unions to bring about awareness of HIV/AIDS to their employees and their clients.
