Sunday, January 21, 2007 marked a new milestone in the NFL as Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith became the first two black head coaches to lead a team to the Super Bowl. At approximately 6:00 pm, the Chicago Bears had defeated the New Orleans Saints 39-14 making Smith the first black head coach to win the NFC championship. Four hours later, he was joined by another black head coach - his friend, Tony Dungy, who’s Indianapolis Colts had defeated the New England Patriots 38-34.
