As we move deeper into 2011, the economic numbers for the Black community remain grim. Recent statistics from the Small Business Administration show that less than 10% of the dollars earned by African-Americans can be credited with supporting African-American owned businesses. In addition, African Americans have an unemployment rate that is 86% higher than whites, according to the December 2010 Jobs Report. Many of the Black communities across the country also have a high school drop-out rate in the area of 50% or even higher. And of course, the Black community was specifically and directly targeted by the banking industry and experienced a tremendous loss of wealth in the home mortgage crisis.

TGR: Black Capitol Awards II Brings Out MD, DC, VA, DE, GA, and NJ:
Every day, I talk to entrepreneurs and small business owners who are building their brand. Every day, I hear that determination, that drive, that “I can” attitude that will stop at nothing short of success.
All that to say, we are so very grateful and proud of the people who came out to Wednesday night’s Black Capitol Awards II in Washington, DC. To say the least, it was incredible to see the beauty of pure business networking in effect.
