A Message from Doni Glover: The Beauty of the HARAMBEE Dinner Club
(BALTIMORE - October 14, 2008) - Every now and then, I ponder what, if any, impact the HARAMBEE Dinner Club has had on local business and politics. After all, we have hosted governors, mayors, Congressmen, doctors, lawyers, professors, entrepreneurs, media specialists, bankers, bureaucrats, engineers, and actual millionaires in venues across the region.
For example, I know that www.BMORENEWS.com has toiled arduously to effectively deliver and host these unique business and political networking affairs for the past 6 years in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, Anne Arundel County, and Washington, DC.
Further, I know that we reiterate the bountifulness of this $45 billion in annual disposable income in the black community alone between Baltimore and Washington, DC nearly every Tuesday on our weekly WOLB 1010 AM radio show and on, of course, BMORENEWS.com. FYI: This is considered the second largest market for African Americans in the country, next to New York.
Therefore, we have made it our business to ensure that blacks increasingly do business with each other … and others in this region. Hence, we have the HARAMBEE Dinner Club.
Otherwise, we are "beggars sitting on piles of gold."
By the way, it was Brother Charlie Dugger whom first introduced me to this Swahili term meaning “all pull together.”
And considering that this economy is the worst ever for small businesses, right now we have to continue to tighten our belts, be wise about everything from time to money to energy and resources, and continue to stay busy doing the things we need to do to survive and succeed.
And, to me, that’s where the HARAMBEE events help make the difference and have proven to be most effective time and time again: we help to connect the dots, link the resources, and help build ourselves up in the process.
So, if you don’t attend this one, then attend another in the future. But just remember: the more we work together, the easier the load.
Tonight’s featured guests at Milton’s Grill, 336 North Charles Street – 6 to 8 pm - include our emcee, Attorney Craig Thompson (also News Host on WEAA 88.9 FM), Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler, former State Senator Clarence Mitchell, III, Delegate Veronica Turner, Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and Delegate Michael Vaughn – both hailing from Gorgeous Prince George’s County.
Other speakers include Anna Custer of Live Baltimore, Karen Shannon of M-PALM, Teddy Coates of Bank of America and financial specialist Darric Boyd.
The topics are the economy and the election. Come on out and join us! Dinner is $20 and you can RSVP to Phenomenal Events at 1.443.223.8759.
