A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY STORY AND A FUN HOLIDAY COOK BOOK
(ORLANDO - November 20, 2008 - BlackNews.com) - It's Christmastime in Jacksonville!
Nadine Charleston and Gerald Phillips are closer and hotter than ever. These two mixed like oil and water in Hunger, but soon became inseparable. It wouldn't be the holidays, though, if things weren't a little funky.
Holiday Flava' is warm, funny, and sexy holiday fun. This is author Rod Sanford's second novel. His first was Hunger, published in 2004. Holiday Flava' was fun to write as Christmas is his favorite time of year.
"I dive into the holidays head first every year, the decorations, the parties, especially the food and the effect on people's hearts. It's the one time of the year we try to treat each other decently."
The story opens on a celebration. Nadine's catering business is booming. Plus her romance novel is picked up for publication. However, her holiday plans are cut short when Gerald is sent to Europe on a banking crisis. Her son, Gregory, and Keisha are wrestling with parenthood, school, and work. Doc and Grace Farris try to support each other through Grace's personal challenges. Even Mother Farris is pissed off about the holidays, to no one's surprise. Add to this a mysterious Jamaican herb man and Gerald's know-it-all ex-wife who shows up unannounced.
Sanford captures the fun but crazy times during the holidays in Holiday Flava'. Nadine and her friends work through their yuletide season with love, patience, understanding and great food. In addition to the heartwarming fun, there are delectable descriptions of holiday treats.
At the end of the book there is a small appendix detailing recipes for sweet potato pie, stuffing, Christmas cookies and other holiday fare.
"Read this book, and you will crave your favorites," Sanford said. "The story is meant to be a part of the holiday experience. Read the story while listening to your favorite holiday music and baking something sweet from the recipes in the back."
