During her tenure she instituted a number of reforms that led to her community being named by the American Planning Association as one of “America’s Top Ten Neighborhoods”. Dana has also served as an active volunteer for national, state and local political campaigns. She considers helping elect Senator Barack Obama as President of the United States in 2008 as one of the most exhilarating campaigns she has been a part of. Arnold Jolivet, Maryland’s Foremost Authority on Minority Business, specifically “Black Business”, was indeed such a human being, and public figure. When I learned of the passing of Mr. Jolivet, who I affectionately referred to as “Deacon”, because of his longtime ministry as Chair of the Deacon Board at the historic Union Baptist Church, I listened to Ozzie Davis’s Eulogy of Malcolm X delivered on February 27, 1965, at the Faith Temple Church of God in Harlem, New York. In his eulogy, the legendary journalist, actor, and activist, Mr. Davis, referred to his friend, and fellow co-laborer in the struggle, Malcolm X as “A Prince – our own shining Black Prince”, and “Our manhood, our living Black Manhood”. With over 14 years of experience as an educator for the State of MD, Helen has been played an instrumental role in youth empowerment and development. She has taught a variety of academic subjects at all grade levels, as well as numerous extracurricular youth activities.
Ms. Washington attended Morgan State University obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Her initial desire was to become an engineer. But after an eye-opening internship at Northrop Grumman as a college recruiter, her desire shifted to a study of the law.
