Theme: The State of MBE’s in Maryland
(BALTIMORE – June 11, 2009) – Keeping the momentum going in 2009, BMORENEWS announced today the line-up for the June Business Soiree scheduled for June 23, 2009 from 6 to 8 pm at the Radisson Lord Baltimore Hotel, 20 West Baltimore Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21201.
The speakers for June 23rd’s event come from two groups: business and government.
From the world of business, the speakers include *Dawn P. Jackson of the Women Business Owners of Prince George’s County, *Charles Owens of the Baltimore City Chamber of Commerce, *Pless Jones of the Maryland Minority Contractors Association, *Joan Worthington of Multinational Development of Women in Technology, and *Charles Johnson of the Greater Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce.
The political/governmental speakers include *State Senator Verna L. Jones (Baltimore City), *State Senator Cathy Pugh (Baltimore City), *Delegate Michael Vaughn (Prince George’s County), *Delegate Barbara Robinson (Baltimore City), and the new Baltimore County MBE Officer – Damon Hughes.
*Delegate Herman Taylor (Montgomery County) will be delivering the keynote address. It should be noted that Delegate Taylor pulled together the 1st MBE Night in Annapolis during the past legislative session, attracting minority business owners from across the state in an unprecedented fashion.
The Master of Ceremony for the evening is Paul Taylor, Director of the Small Business Resource Center of Baltimore (www.sbrcbaltimore.com). An entrepreneur in his own right, Taylor has been a long-time supporter of www.BMORENEWS.com since our inception in 2002.
Attendees will get an up-front perspective on the state of MBE’s in Maryland, resources and programs that are available to entrepreneurs, and the opportunity to network with movers and shakers in the region. BMORENEWS has been hosting such regular events since the fall of that year.
Past speakers have included Special Secretary Sharon Pinder, Congressman Elijah Cummings, Lieutenant Gov. Anthony Brown, then-Mayor Martin O’Malley (now Governor of Maryland), then-candidates Michael S. Steele and Robert Ehrlich, Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith, Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson, then-candidate “Ike” Leggett (now County Executive of Montgomery County), Congressman (now-Senator) Ben Cardin, gREIBO Media CEO Shelonda Stokes, Visionary Marketing Group CEO LaRian Finney, Meridian Management Group CEO Stan Tucker, dEVNIX CEO Alexis Coates, and a host of others, including now-Attorney General of Maryland Doug Gansler.
These events have focused primarily on political economy, that is, the interrelationship between politics and economics. All businesses are encouraged to attend.

President Obama today announced the charities that will receive a portion of the $1.4 million award that comes with the Nobel peace prize.
