Chandra Pitts to Emcee BMORENEWS Global Forum on Women's Empowerment at United Nations
(WILMINGTON - May 30, 2012) - Coming from a family that truly understands the concept of service, Chandra Pitts is a virtual renaissance woman. The Founder and Executive Director of One Village Alliance located in Wilmington, Pitts is involved in a number of initiatives that are designed with the empowerment of children in mind. On this note, BMORENEWS is pleased to announce that Pitts will serve as the emcee for what is the pre-kick-off for BMORENEWS' 10th Anniversary: The BMORENEWS Global Forum on Women's Empowerment on Friday, June 15th at the United Nations in New York City.

This event, according to BMORENEWS publisher Doni Glover, "is the quintessential networking experience with the UN as the backdrop." He said, "It doesn't get more global than this! So, if you want to take your game to the next level, you should be at the global forum at the UN on June 15th."
The Global Forum on Women’s Empowerment Sponsored by the Foundation for the Support of the United Nations (FSUN) will take place at the United Nations in New York City on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 11 am to 3 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to: (1) meet representatives at Missions from around the world; (2) discuss ever-evolving challenges in the global business arena; (3) identify empowerment opportunities for women; and (4) develop action plans/items and execute effective follow-up strategies.
There will be a panel discussion, two keynotes, and an awards ceremony by Sisters4Sisters Network Inc. Honorees include Delayna Keller-Watkins and Theresa Royal Brown.
Our keynotes are Shaheen Afishan, Managing Director of M/s. Summit InternaionaI, and Cheryl Walker-Robertson, Founder of Protocol International.
The discussion features the experts. They include Dr. Patricia Newton (Physician/WorldTraveler), Empowerment Specialist Stacie N. C. Grant, entertainment journalist Kam Williams, and business networking guru Henry Nelson of NYC's 1209 NYC's Enterprises.

Chandra G. Pitts is a social entrepreneur working with passion and integrity to educate, uplift and propel children and their families on a holistic journey toward overall excellence. Her indelible dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of others has driven her success throughout her career.
As Founder and CEO of The Village Learning Center, Chandra lead the development of an innovative program model designed to bring learning to life for students in graded K-8. The model was adopted in 2009 by the Department of Education in Delaware and New Jersey. With 19 program sites located in the heart of high need communities throughout both states, TVLC provides vital academic support to students at no cost to families.
Ms. Pitts also serves as the Executive Director of One Village Alliance, which she founded with the assertion that it truly does take a whole village to raise a child. With an emphasis on education, this community collaborative provides a myriad of wrap around services designed to build strong families, safe neighborhoods and healthy children.
She works internationally distributing hundreds of book bags and literacy packs filled with school supplies and books to schools and learning centers throughout Jamaica. Her summer diversity/enrichment program, Around the World in a Summer, allows local youth to journey through countries and cultures throughout the world through literature, math and economics, art and music.
Chandra is the author of Powerful Little Girl, a poetic and inspirational work that speaks to the strength and beauty born within every woman and our ability to reconnect with that existence and realize our dreams, no matter what age.
She has traveled to Jamaica, Mexico, Nassau, and Canada.

Awards/Recognitions
In 2009, University of Delaware Women’s Studies documentary depicted the personal narrative of Chandra Pitts and won the Nanú Paloma Guerrero Award for Excellence. It is now archived at the University’s Special Collections in the Morris Library.
In 2008 Chandra was featured on CNN Newsmakers for her impact and contributions to the community.
Chandra’s accomplishments have also been featured in Delaware Today, Spark Magazine, Salem Sunbeam, Delaware News Journal, El Tiempo Hispano and BMORENEWS.
