On Thursday, May 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Mr. Eddie Brown, founder of Baltimore-based management firm, Brown Capital Management Inc. - one of the oldest African American owed management firms- will host an autographing session and book signing for his book “Beating the Odds: Eddie Brown’s Investing and Life Strategies” at Coppin State University.
(BALTIMORE - May 1, 2012) – On Thursday, May 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Mr. Eddie Brown, founder of Baltimore-based management firm, Brown Capital Management Inc. - one of the oldest African American owed management firms- will host an autographing session and book signing for his book “Beating the Odds: Eddie Brown’s Investing and Life Strategies” at Coppin State University.
The event will be moderated by Stan Stovall of WBAL-TV News and will be held in the Parlett Moore Library, 2nd floor in the Cab Calloway Room.
In the tome - both inspirational and autobiographical - Brown writes about being born to a 13-year-old unwed mother in the rural South, obtaining his electrical engineering degree, and later becoming the proprietor of one of the most successful financial services firm in the United States, Brown Capital Management, that amassed more than $6 million under his management. It also discusses the public outrage over the failing of Lehman Brothers and the following economic decline.
In 2002, Mr. Brown and his family created the Turning the Corner Achievement Program (T-CAP), an unprecedented educational initiative for African American middle school students in Baltimore, managed jointly by Associated Black Charities and the Baltimore Community Foundation. T-CAP provides Baltimore middle school youth a unique combination of educational and personal support to prepare them for success in high school and beyond.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown received the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service, in 2011, for their philanthropic efforts.
Mr. James Roberts, advancement consultant and coordinator of the event, hopes Mr. Brown is able to get a better understanding of students at Coppin State and their interest in being successful.”

The event is presented by The School of Business and The Coppin Man. The event is free to the public. Attendees are encouraged to have books signed, ask questions or just participate in the discussion.
