GCOMM Media Co.: 3rd Annual Freedom Fighter Awards Breakfast :: Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 9 to 11 am
GCOMM Media Co. presents its 3rd Annual Freedom Fighter Awards Breakfast, honoring local heroes in the fields of politics and media. In celebration of the 49th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington, we remember those who have went before us by honoring those who currently are benefiting from 'the Dream' while also paving the way for those who come behind them.
This years proceeds, continuing in the tradition of years past, will go to young people striving for excellence in youth programs geared toward civic participation, media and public policy. All proceeds will go to the Baltimore City After-School Activity Fund and the Dewees Rec/Football League. We are honored to be partnering with Darker than Blue Cafe once again, as well as marketing partner LaJe Professionals.
This year's honorees will include:
Tracy Ward - Freedom Fighter Journalist of the Year
Marc Clarke and Allison Seymour - Power Couple of the Year in Media
Dale Graham - Freedom Fighter of the Century Award (Honoring those who are no longer with us)
Marc Steiner - Lifetime Achievement Award in Media
Larry Young - Lifetime Achievement Award in Politics
Jody Landers - Lifetime Achievement Award in Civic Participation
Dereck Valcourt - Freedom Fighter of the Year Award in Media
Nicolee Ambrose - Freedom Fighter of the Year Award in Civic Participation
Delegate Neil Parrott - Freedom Fighter of the Year Award in Politics
Fannie Lou Hamer PAC - Freedom Fighting Group of the Year in Civic Participation
And a surprise guest Lifetime Achievement Award winner To Be Announced at a later date...

Frederick Douglass Statue To Represent District at U.S. Capitol - As Douglass Descendants Continue Fight To End Slavery:
Amongst the members of Congress, historians, popular personalities and national press, the descendants of Frederick Douglass will be in attendance during the unveiling ceremony. Nettie Washington Douglass is the Abolitionist’s great great granddaughter as well as the great granddaughter of Tuskegee University Founder and renown educator, Booker T. Washington. She is Chairwoman of Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives (FDFI), an Atlanta-based, non-profit organization dedicated to ending the many forms of slavery that still survive in the world today.
“We are so proud that the Congress of the United States has chosen to honor Frederick Douglass in this way,” said Ms. Douglass. “We especially want to thank Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton of the District of Columbia for her outstanding work on making it a reality.”
