Hassan Murphy, Eddie Smith to Speak at MILESTONE: 10th Anniversary Gala for BMORENEWS.com
(BALTIMORE - October 17, 2012) – The community is cordially invited on Wednesday, December 12th (12.12.12) to MILESTONE where www.bmorenews.com will celebrate its 10th Anniversary. The event is dubbed “MILESTONE” – and begins with a VIP Reception sponsored by R.E. Harrington and Banks Construction and Development from 6:30-8 pm. There will be some very special features to this reception including giveaways for business owners and massages by Jenn Williams.
The program begins promptly at 8:10 pm and will feature some community presentation and remarks by Attorneys Edward Smith and Hassan Murphy. Both men are prominent lawyers based in Baltimore and are stalwart supporters of fairness and equality.
We chose these two men for a few reasons. The most important reason, I think, is that they both represent the mindset that is essentially necessary in order for African Americans to make progress.
Eddie Smith, for those who don’t know him, is a firebrand when it comes to speaking truth to power. Mr. Smith is well aware of the nuances and idiosyncrasies of the American legal system and how it has disaffected people of color.
Hassan Murphy, who represents the next generation, is a dynamic young man with a global perspective who amply walks in a strong, regal legacy in the Baltimore legal community. His father and grandfather signify the best and brightest of judges in America – straight out of Cherry Hill. Mr. Murphy is indicative of America’s finest legal minds as he negotiates multimillion dollar deals for a living.

The Glover Report: It's Election Time!:
Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.
