She was also a frequent contributor and guest on The Marc Clarke Show on Baltimore’s My24 station. Mrs. Trye has an extensive background in public speaking, having made numerous presentations. : Dana has always been very involved in her community. She served as president of the Charles Village Civic Association for three years. During her tenure she instituted a number of reforms that led to her community being named by the American Planning Association as one of “America’s Top Ten Neighborhoods”. Dana has also served as an active volunteer for national, state and local political campaigns. She considers helping elect Senator Barack Obama as President of the United States in 2008 as one of the most exhilarating campaigns she has been a part of. With over 14 years of experience as an educator for the State of MD, Helen has been played an instrumental role in youth empowerment and development. She has taught a variety of academic subjects at all grade levels, as well as numerous extracurricular youth activities.
Ms. Washington attended Morgan State University obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Her initial desire was to become an engineer. But after an eye-opening internship at Northrop Grumman as a college recruiter, her desire shifted to a study of the law. John Milton Wesley is an accomplished author and singer/songwriter. He was born in Mississippi. His “God Mother” was civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer. His family’s insurance man was civil rights leader Medgar Evers.
Wesley moved to Maryland in 1973. Earlier, he attended Tougaloo College on a vocal music scholarship, Yale University on a writing Fellowship, and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism on a journalism fellowship. He is a published author whose work has been published in nine anthologies in English, Arabic and Spanish. His current work is included in “The Arab American Handbook”, edited by Nawar Shora, for Cune Press/ Seattle, Washington.
