Larry Collins Among Featured Guests at March Soiree '09 - Business Networking at its Finest!
On Tuesday, March 24, 2009 (6 to 8 pm), bmorenews.com and its partners will present the March Soiree '09 - Business Networking at its Finest! - at the new Baltimore Hilton's Diamond Tavern featuring Baltimore City State's Attorney Patricia Jessamy and a host of business professionals from Howard County, including Larry Collins. Collins is the Executive Director of the Howard County Tech Council.
Who is Larry Collins?
Larry Collins, an alumnus of Howard University, started in the Information Technology field over 25 years ago. He has worked for the largest IT companies in the world. American Management Systems, Boeing Computer Support, Digital Equipment Corporation and Compaq Computers are among the companies he has worked for. While at Boeing, Collins managed the Office Automation System supporting the initial design of the NASA Space Station. Collins left Boeing and went to Digital Equipment Corporation as a Software Specialist. During his tenure at Digital, Collins rose through the organization to head the Federal Consulting business unit. This was responsible for over 12 million annual revenue. When Digital was acquired by Compaq, Collins took a leadership position heading up the Microsoft E-Business Engineering Group.
As the manager for Microsoft E-Business Engineering Group, Collins developed and implemented service delivery standards, whitepapers and best practices for Microsoft .Net Products. His team was responsible for over 100 million dollars in annual revenue. This included service delivery, hardware products and on-site consulting services to National businesses and Government Agencies.
Now with the Howard County Economic Authority, Collins brings to the Authority 25 years of technical industry experience with the last 18 years spent in the technical and sales fields. Collins has extensive face-to-face customer experience with business development and solutions to include the sales of messaging and Internet technologies.
Collins has worked extensively with Fortune 100 companies
Collins has received numerous awards such as the Special Achievement Award Digital Equipment Corporation, Star Award Digital Equipment Corporation, Outstanding Achievement Award Digital Equipment Corporation, Achievement Award Digital Equipment Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation, and the Special Recognition Award Compaq Computer Corporation. He is a member of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors MIT Enterprise Forum, Black Data Processing Association (BDPA), and AFFIRM - Internet Technology Committee.

President Obama today announced the charities that will receive a portion of the $1.4 million award that comes with the Nobel peace prize.
