Morehouse Alumni News: RBC Bank Names Wachovia Executive Reginald Davis President
(ATLANTA - October 6, 2009) - Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has hired veteran Wachovia executive Reginald Davis as its president, the Raleigh-based lender announced.
Davis joined Wachovia, now part of Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC), after graduating from Atlanta ’s Morehouse College in 1985. He rose through the executive ranks to the position of executive vice president and Eastern Banking Group executive. In that role, he led retail and wholesale activities in 20 East Coast states to increase revenue and cross-selling of products.
As president of RBC Bank, Davis will oversee five divisions: Retail Banking, Commercial Markets, Specialized Businesses, Private Banking and Residential Mortgages. He also will be responsible for “achieving and exceeding” the bank’s client satisfaction and revenue goals, RBC said in a news release.
"Reggie's experience and market familiarity make him an excellent leader for our client-facing employees in executing our strategy to provide the best possible service to our clients," said Scott Custer, RBC Bank’s CEO. "We are very pleased he is joining our team, and I look forward to working closely with him."
Davis fills a position that had been vacant and steps into a role Custer promised to create as his bank tries to deal with a glut of bad loans that have pushed the company's bottom line into the red in recent quarters. Davis is a 2005 recipient of the coveted Bennie Leadership Award named in honor of Morehouse's 6th president, Dr. Benamin Elijah Mays. He is also the son of the late Silas W. Davis '50.
Davis will be based at RBC Bank's headquarters in Raleigh . RBC Bank is the U.S. banking arm of the Royal Bank of Canada (NYSE: RY). Please join President Franklin and the entire Morehouse community in congratulating Reggie on this significant achievement.

Two Weeks Out from MD Primary …:
What’s sure to be exciting is any series of debates that are likely to occur. Personally, I’d like to hear some discussion of business opportunities for minorities, ie black folks. I’d also like to hear some good news on the funding of our public schools. And if I had to choose a third priority, it would be health care. Del. Dan Morhaim, M.D. was recently on The Huckabee TV Show and did a stellar job explaining some of the key elements of “ObamaCare”. While we have covered Pres. Barack Obama’s intentions to address major health issues specifically regarding the African American community, I’d simply like to hear more about helping to reduce medical costs to Marylanders – including the cost of prescriptions.
Locally, three races have captivated my imagination this election season: The Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office; the Baltimore County Exec; and the 4th Councilmanic District.
With 15 years under her belt, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Pat Jessamy faces opposition from Defense Attorney Greg Bernstein. Last week, Bernstein’s campaign came under fire for what many, including University of Baltimore Law Professor Larry Gibson, thought was a tasteless piece of negative advertising; one of his ads featured the Dawson Family in East Baltimore where a clip of the Dawson tragedy was used without the family’s permission.

TGR: Women 2 Women 4 Women: E Media Makes Waves:
Black woman, most might agree, have often been the backbone of the black family. Many times a single mother, this night was a kind reminder that even though she may be a mother and/or a wife, she is first a person. And a person has dreams, ambitions, goals, visions.
A dear friend reminded me of that tonight. She spoke of a book I read in Tanzania – “Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. I can recall that as I read that book, I was even more convinced to do the things I’ve been blessed to do today – the most important part being about helping and serving others.
