The Re-Birth of Candice Denise: On the Next "Empower Hour" w/ Doni Glover:
MEET Candice Denise
Candice Denise is President and Co-Owner of Haute Minded Events (HME), a social/socially corporate event planning firm specializing in cosmopolitan sophistication of non-wedding related events. The firm was founded in 2007 Washington, DC and produces some of the area’s most jaw-dropping events, both small and large. HME is the newest division of holy matrimony and thrives on the mantra of turning events from hopeless mediocrity to an historic moment.
Candice Denise possesses an eclectic skill set of talents that allow her to design, create and direct events with the eye of both a performer and a designer. She is an accomplished thespian with a background in dance and the Arts finding a home in theatrical productions. Ms. Candice Denise not only acts, but does more than dabble in the world of dance as well. She has had a diversified education and career path including graduating from Johnson C. Smith University, attending the Art Institute of Charlotte - majoring in Fashion Marketing. Her couture eye and envelope-pushing style have landed her stints with Nordstrom and enabled her to design and fine tune the look and feel of an event into the personification of one’s vision.
After a stint in the wedding planning division of the holy matrimony, Ms. Owens was able to strengthen her design and logistics management muscles in the world of luxury weddings. While working with holy matrimony, Candice had the opportunity to assist Style Network’s Season 7 planner Vicky Johnson on the nationally-syndicated show, Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?
She developed the special touch needed to deal with one’s most precious day while maintaining a logistics mastery over the flawless execution of an event. Whether working with groups of 500 or 50, Ms. Owens is always able to bring a new level of style and professionalism to both the event and the industry as a whole. She has had the esteemed opportunity to work for clients in the NFL and affiliated sports organizations, planned destination weddings in Mexico and Jamaica, and had the opportunity to meet, greet and be photographed with R&B singer Usher Raymond on his 2008 “One Night Stand” Tour by Rolling Stone Magazine.
She formerly Co-Founded and Co-Hosted along with (two others) a Blog Talk Radio Show named Her Style TV, Candice brought her special brand of wit, intellect and life experience to the online blog and weekly blog talk radio show where the look of “Essence Magazine met the commentary of The View.”
Having a love for all things “beautiful”, Candice is also the Founder of “Brow Beauty.” A concept created for the everyday woman who wants the perfect eyebrow arch. She wanted every woman to learn how to DIY with the Brow Beauty technique; transforming brows from a simple arch, into a designer frame for one’s face through the technique of Shadowing. She says, “Your brows were meant to be enhanced, not created!"
A consummate public speaker with the ability to command an audience whether on-stage or in a board room, leadership qualities abound while she earnestly believes in creating opportunities for those to follow in her footsteps should they so desire. She currently serves as a mentor to other young entrepreneurs that seek to not only realize their dreams, but see them come to fruition. She also served as a volunteer screener for the Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore, Event/Wedding Instructor for College of Southern Maryland under LWPI (Lovegevity Wedding Planning Institute), and is the contributing Events/Wedding Editor for “Far Above Rubies” Magazine. She also has been featured as a speaker at her alma mater, Johnson C. Smith University, and at Coppin State University.
Some of her accomplishments include being featured in and on Essence.com (Cover Girl Unleash Your Beauty Contest Winner), Vibe Vixen Magazine (Vixen of the Day), Fearless Mag.com (Fearless Journey Column), DC Ladies Magazine (Dreamers and Doers Column), Grace and Mercy Magazine, Trends magazine, Balleralert.com, mydeejay.com (blog article), Wall of Styles Radio Show, “The Magic Hour,” The Build Up Internet Radio Show, nationally syndicated shows “Say Yes to the Dress,” “The Dr. Oz Show,” and Emceeing for TSimone Designs 2010 FALL Fashions line.

The Glover Report: It's Election Time!:
Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.

CHICAGO: Black Star Project: Commencement Remarks By First Lady Michelle Obama for Bowie State University:
But most of all, to the Bowie State University class of 2013, congratulations. (Applause.) Oh, congratulations. You don't know how proud we all are of you. Just look at you. We're so proud of how hard you worked, all those long hours in the classroom, in the library. Oh, yeah. Amen. (Laughter.) All those jobs you worked to help pay your tuition. Many of you are the first in your families to get a college degree. (Applause.) Some of you are balancing school with raising families of your own. (Applause.) So I know this journey hasn't been easy. I know you've had plenty of moments of doubt and frustration and just plain exhaustion. Read in Full >>
