BMORENEWS.com and The Baltimore Times Present Business Opportunities for Area Business Owners and Business Professionals

Community icons to be honored: Dr. Marie J. Washington, Catherine B. Orange, Dr. Charles Simmons, Vernon Bailey

(BALTIMORE – May 6, 2008) – Despite the naiveté of some business people, business networking is as essential to a business as vitamins are to the human body. According to the American Heritage College Dictionary, networking is “[a]n informal system whereby persons having common interests assist each other.”

Since the fall of 2002, BMORENEWS.com has been providing such networking opportunities for area businesses. By parlaying political connections, BMORENEWS.com has been bringing the politician to the people. Even more, BMORENEWS.com has been connecting like-minded individuals in business with their like-minded counterparts.

According to the American Heritage College Dictionary, networking is “[a]n informal system whereby persons having common interests assist each other.”

Throughout the month of April 2008, BMORENEWS.com has held a series of Power Networking functions at Milton’s Grill, a local restaurant on N. Charles Street. Throughout these five sessions, people have been connected and re-connected with others they have not seen in quite a long time.

Attendees have included politicians, business people, and community leaders, including Ackneil Muldrow, a man who helped found the Baltimore Marketing Association.

These “Power” networking functions were so well received that BMORENEWS.com was mandated to keep them going.

In this spirit, there will be two “Power Networking” events held in the month of May: Wednesday, May 14th and Wednesday, May 28th from 6 to 8 pm at The Shops at North and Charles – 23 – 25 East North Avenue.

On the 14th, BMORENEWS.com has added an additional feature where this Baltimore-based web portal will honor two outstanding women: Dr. Marie J. Washington of the East Baltimore Community Corporation in Historic East Baltimore and Catherine B. Orange, the quintessential leader of The Arena Players. While Dr. Washington has an incredible list of accomplishments when it comes to helping rebuild Historic East Baltimore, Ms. Orange is the head of the longest-running black theater house in the U.S.

On the 28th, the honorees will be Dr. Charles Simmons, President of Sojourner-Douglass College, and funeral director extraordinaire Vernon Bailey. Dr. Simmons, for the uninitiated, is the longest-serving president of any college or university in Maryland. And Mr. Bailey, who once ran the historic George G. Kelson Funeral Home on Calhoun Street in Sandtown, is simply the dean of modern day funeral directors.

The event will feature a number of vendors, including Kustom Looks from Prince George's County. Other special guests will include Angie Barnett, Executive Director of the Better Business Bureau of Maryland.

The cost of admission is $20 and includes a catered dinner.

To RSVP or to speak, contact Phenomenal Events by calling 1.443.223.8759 or emailing contact@phenomenal-events.com. Vendors are welcome.
