SHONTEL D. HIGHTOWER
During trials and tribulations you are blessed. Life storms come and go; but during it all, you are blessed. If you are breathing, you are blessed. If you woke up in your right mind, you are blessed. If you work with crazy folks on the job, you are blessed. If you are able to give God a “hand wave”-- you my friend are blessed. If you can feel the breeze outside, you are blessed. If you can read this poem, guess what, you are blessed.”
Shontel D. Hightower is a woman that was born to stand-up for her beliefs. She spent her formative years living in both Philadelphia and New Jersey; Shontel had to learn at a very early age the importance of hard work. At the tender age of 15 her mother was diagnosed with cancer, so she had to muster untold maturity. In the process of learning how to take care of herself, the call of the streets infiltrated her psyche. In the tumultuous whirlwind of her mother’s death, not knowing how to properly deal with such a loss, Shontel’s emotions and pain spiraled to lofty heights; she leaned to the streets for support. Money, clothes, fast cars, condos, men, jewels, and drama seemed to soothe the pain. Externally, she seemed to have it all; but on the inside, she was slowly withering away. In all of the madness, Shontel could hear the voice of her beautiful mother; this imbued thoughts of her mother’s anecdotes and advice she presented. Shontel reflected upon the fact that her mother pursued her education and strove to be an example to her daughter, even after she had been diagnosed with cancer.
After years of turmoil and drama, Shontel felt a strong desire for change. She knew that there had to be more to life than what she was experiencing. Beaming with joy, Shontel proclaims that the best day of her life was when she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into her heart as her personal savior. The lasting lesson she learned from the tough times was that God is in control no matter what she has been through or will go through in life. If she truly submitted her life to Christ, she can experience life again and have joyous times continually.
As an author, performance artist, dancer, screenwriter, entrepreneur, creative force, and an energetic and tantalizing speaker, Shontel is dedicated to helping others overcome their struggles, hardships, and problems.
Shontel was a correspondent for 17days of Fashion 2011 and the Philadelphia Collections 2011. Shontel also was a writer and co-host for the T.V. Show Pilot Rise and Shine. As well as head writer and guest for the T.V. Show Pilot Mother’s With A View. Shontel has sat on several panel’s discussions. Currently Shontel is the Director of Financial Aid at All State Career School (Lester, PA)
Shontel stands on the scripture Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
