The Flywire, Inc.
CEO and Editor-in-Chief
Biography
Baltimore Native Marcy Evans Crump is the founder of The Flywire, Inc., a Baltimore-based multi-media company. Evans-Crump’s primary mission is to promote the Baltimore metropolitan scene and all of its hidden treasures and talents, and highlight phenomenal Baltimoreans.
A self acclaimed “Social Butterfly,” Ms. Evans-Crump created The Flywire- an email party network for Baltimore’s urban professionals, trendsetters and entrepreneurs in 2003. In 2004, The Flywire launched www.theflywire.com as an online entertainment guide. In its infancy at just 4 months old, The Flywire's website and E-news system was named by Baltimore City Paper as the "Best Nightlife Stirrer for Best of Baltimore 2004." The Flywire membership is now a massive, valuable email network of "young at heart" urbanites that enjoy socializing and being in tune with the hottest events around. Flywire members are from Baltimore, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York City, Atlanta, Detroit, Houston, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Columbus, Memphis, New Orleans, and cities in Virginia, New Jersey, North Carolina and Missouri. People from 82 countries, 48 states and countless cities have logged on to The Flywire.com for news about Baltimore.
One year later in July 2005, The Flywire spread its wings and provided an online and printed magazine to showcase Baltimore and the Flywire's valuable network of trendsetters and was named as Best of Baltimore 2005 by the Baltimore City Paper for Best New Magazine. Flywire magazine contributors and staff are a talented group of artists, writers, photographers, Baltimore icons, and business professionals. In 2006, the magazine was featured in a national campaign for Verizon.
Currently in 2008, the popularity of The Flywire has increased to great proportions and reigns as the entertainment leader in Baltimore as the top promoter and event planner; and serves as the advertising broker for all that's hot in the area.
In an effort to maximize the collective power of The Flywire and its individual members, subsidiary groups The Flywire VIP Network and The Flywire CEO Club have been created. The two new programs will be launched as part of the new and improved TheFlywire.com in 2009.
A former Baltimore City Public School System Public Relations specialist, Baltimore City Recreation and Parks Marketing/Media Director and Visionary Marketing Group Public Relations Director, Evans Crump also serves as an event planner and public relations consultant for select clients. From 1994 through 2000, Evans Crump was also the co-owner of Two Fierce Productions, Inc., another successful Baltimore-based entertainment productions company.
Social Butterfly currently resides in Forest Park and is the single mom of an eight year old son who attends a Baltimore City public school. She is a graduate of Walbrook Senior High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Virginia Union University. She is also a member of the public service organization Delta Sigma Theta.

TGR: Will Leronia Josey Make County History?:
Baltimore County Councilman Ken Oliver could have his hands full this election season - that is, if Ms. Josey decides to put her bid in for his seat. While Oliver is the first black to serve on the County Council, a loss to Josey would make her the first black woman to serve on the Baltimore County Council - a crew that consists mostly of white males. Move over, guys!
A black president; a possible black governor; seems only logical to me.

Jim Morrison said that ‘whoever controls the media controls the mind!’ Yet today’s media has seemed to have shifted it’s interest from responsible investigative reporting to a more instant on-demand format of sound bytes and hybrid headlines.
From the advent of social media tools such as YouTube and Facebook to the reduction in senior staff and publications of print media, the lack of real journalism has ceased to exist. However who is truly to be blamed, the reporters’ who spew the untruth without proper fact checks or the consumers of such information who propagate this gossip as factual?

Despite all that is messed up, I am taken back to grandma’s favorite hymn, #325, in the good ol’ Baptist Hymnal: “We’ll understand it better bye and bye.” I’m taken back to the praying man’s visit every Monday at 4 pm and the long, long prayers he would utter. I think of drinking tea and eating Graham crackers with grandpop before grandma got home.
Friends, it is easy to focus on the negative. It is easy to throw the towel in on life. It is easy to concede, to give up, to quit. I don’t know about you, but I refuse to do so. I just can’t. I won’t. There is a certain sense of entitlement of expanded territory that I simply demand of myself and those around me, as ordained by God. I say, mediocrity is for the lame. This kid here expects the very best that God has to offer. Come hell or high water, I’ll just have to take the hits; but progress, I insist, is imminent.
