Baltimore, MD: Hanlon Park's Lake Ashburton, October 24th 2009, 7am-1pm (Registration)
Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park and Museum 9:30pm-1:30am (Gala)
(BALTIMORE - October 18, 2009) - On Saturday October 24th, 2009, the 1st Annual “If You Could Walk a Mile in Our Shoes…” Heel-A-Thon will take place. Women will gather in Baltumore’s Hanlon Park (Lake Ashburton Resevoir), 3200 W. Powhaten Avenue, to raise money for Y.A.N.A. (You Are Never Alone) Place, 501c3. This charity walk will raise awareness of human trafficking and forced prostitution, which enslaves women and children everyday. The United States is ranked 3rd in countries with the highest rate of sex trafficking. Y.A.N.A. Place assists in helping victims of human trafficking by providing counseling, food, therapy, shelter, clothing and more. Y.A.N.A. strives to turn victims into survivors all through helping these women and children to seek other alternatives that will jumpstart their healing process.
The Heel-A-Thon will be a site to see, as thousands of women from all walks of life will stand together in heels and walk for those who have fallen victim to this modern day slavery. This event will kick off at 7am and will run until 1pm. During this time there will be mass media involved in publicizing this cause. We request your presence for this cause so that we may reach the masses through television, radio, internet, and print. This event will be followed by a benefit gala held at the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park and Museum. This event will start at 9:30pm and will end at 1:30am.
This is a wonderful event in support of this worthy cause, in which participants, sponsors and those who have contributed will all gather in solidarity to make a difference.

A state of emergency: National Guard in hummers
By Doni Glover, www.bmorenews.com
"The same ol' story in New Orleans" - Jay Z
(BALTIMORE - February 9, 2010) - According to one Baltimore City Police officer stationed in Sandtown, downtown is plowed, Baltimore County is plowed, Carroll County is plowed (he lives there), but he didn't understand why communities - like in West Baltimore - were still left undone.
Fender-benders are not uncommon. The perpetual struggle between pedestrian rights and drivers' fear of getting stuck is ubiquitous. The question remains: Does anybody care about less affluent communities in one of the richest state's in the nation?
Yeah, yeah! We heard the governor announce there would be no additional funds for snow plowing.
Maybe we have to appeal to Pres. Barack Obama to send "state of emergency" dollars directly to municipalities ... like Baltimore. Or, maybe directly outsource dollars to snow removal companies. Whatever the case, this is some bull feces.
In a city where citizens get taxed to death for everything from parking tickets to cell phones, where is the love? Like the songwriter sings, "Ain't no love in the heart of the city!"
