2009 GBLA Masquerade Ball is Coming
BALTIMORE URBAN LEAGUE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS DETERMINED TO RIDE THE WAVE OF RECESSION thru its
"Party With A Purpose"
(BALTIMORE - October 23, 2009) - From its H1N1 education and free flu shot initiative to its Health Care legislation discussion panels, The Greater Baltimore Leadership Association (GBLA), the Young Professionals Auxiliary of the Greater Baltimore Urban League is leading the charge in community service despite the set-backs bought about during the current recession. The organization has developed an aggressive schedule for serving the community through 2010 with Financial Empowerment Seminars designed to see area residents through the tough economy, Nutrition and other health related programs that address immediate dangers to area citizens and ongoing youth mentorship initiatives.
In order to meet the growing needs of the community that they're committed to despite the financial difficulties they face, GBLA is raising money through corporate and private partnerships along with the help of its Annual Masquerade Ball.
Harlem Renaissance "A Night At the Cotton Club" is GBLA's 6th Annual Masquerade Ball and is designed to be the major fundraiser for the year. The events financial focus is to support all of GBLA's initiatives from assistance to homeless women and children to AIDS education and testing services. The event, to be held November 14, 2009 from 9pm - 2am at M&T Bank Stadium hosts the brightest in Young Urban professionals between the ages of 21 and 40 who attend this "Party with a Purpose" known for its great food, fabulous entertainment and unforgettable characters. In previous years, the Ball has been attended by local celebrities and politicians, including Former Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele, now Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
"It's an event that I truly look forward to every year!" says Laura L. Green, Development Director for the American Lung Association in Maryland, "Everyone really embraces the theme of the Ball, wearing tux's, gowns and masks! It's a fun and beautiful party that gives back to the community. I wouldn't miss it for the world!"
William Honablew, Jr., Current GBLA President, admits that raising funds to support the organizations programs during the recession has been tough but adds, "...this is the time when our community needs us the most so we've had to double our fundraising efforts to help us reach those people who need us now more than ever. The Masquerade Ball is a key component to our financial goals.
