We know. You’ve been to town hall meetings and community forums before where everyone talks about helping Baltimore’s kids grow up safely, with a real future.  Too much talk, you say. We want action.

We at WYPR don’t disagree.  But we think talk can be good: comparing notes, listening to real people, learning you’re not alone in the struggle.  Everyone needs to be accountable.

We don’t think our city’s found a comprehensive solution yet, though there are good starts down the road we want to travel.   And there are questions that are still to be answered. How do we achieve accountability? Is there a way to get everyone on the same page? Can we mount an offensive that’s big enough to meet the challenge?

We think the answer is yes, to all these questions. We’re currently airing a series of reports called “Growing Up Baltimore.”  One finding: kids in the city don’t give up. We can’t either.
