AFRO 120th Anniversary Commemorative Edition :: Get your ad!
Greetings:
The AFRO-American Newspapers this summer is celebrating its 120th year of continuously publishing the news of and about the African American community. We are extremely proud of our contribution to the many levels of progress the Black community has achieved over the past 120 years, and in commemoration of our coverage during that period, we are publishing a special 120th Anniversary Edition on August 18th.
From reporting and analyzing how candidate Woodrow Wilson pursued the Black vote in connection with his 1916 presidential campaign, to the coverage of Black troops in Europe and in the South Pacific during World War II, to the “on the bus “ coverage of the Freedom Riders Bus, and to the extensive 2008 democratic primary coverage leading to the historical presidential victory in 2008 of President Barack Obama; the AFRO has indeed covered all of the “big stories” involving the African American community for the past century.
We’d like to offer you an opportunity to include your congratulatory advertisement in this special keepsake commemorative edition. Please phone (410-554-8289) or e-mail your request to be included in this special AFRO 120th Anniversary Commemorative Edition to Susan Gould at susan@afro.com.
Very truly yours,
Jake
John J. Oliver, Jr.

The Glover Report: It's Election Time!:
Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.
