Maryland's First Class Action Suit Against St. Joseph Medical Center for Unnecessary Stent Procedures

Murphy P.A. and the Law Offices of Peter Angelos, P.C. of Baltimore have filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of patients who underwent unnecessary invasive cardiac procedures at St. Joseph Medical Center. The suit contends that Dr. Mark Midei performed hundreds, if not thousands, of unnecessary cardiac stent procedures on patients as revealed by a federal investigation.

HUD Secretary Donovan Announces $31 Million In Recovery Act Grants To Baltimore

U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan announced today that HUD is awarding the Healthy Neighborhoods Consortium $26,092,880 and $5,289,216 to Chicanos Por La Causa Inc. to support efforts by Mi Casa Inc. in Johnston Square in Neighborhood Stabilization Program II (NSP2) funds.

On Saturday October 24th, 2009, the 1st Annual “If You Could Walk a Mile in Our Shoes…” Heel-A-Thon will take place. Women will gather in Baltumore’s Hanlon Park (Lake Ashburton Resevoir), 3200 W. Powhaten Avenue, to raise money for Y.A.N.A. (You Are Never Alone) Place, 501c3. This charity walk will raise awareness of human trafficking and forced prostitution, which enslaves women and children everyday. The United States is ranked 3rd in countries with the highest rate of sex trafficking. Y.A.N.A. Place assists in helping victims of human trafficking by providing counseling, food, therapy, shelter, clothing and more. Y.A.N.A. strives to turn victims into survivors all through helping these women and children to seek other alternatives that will jumpstart their healing process.

Coppin and 100 College Access Program to Hold Press Conference

Coppin State University (CSU) and 100 Black Men of Maryland, Incorporated and its College Access Program (100 CAP), have partnered to take a hands-on-approach to encouraging students from five inner-city middle schools to prepare for college.

The 100 Black Men of Maryland, Incorporated, 100 CAP and CSU’s American Humanics Program will service 125 students at the following five Baltimore City Middle schools: The Dr. Nathan A. Pitts/Ashburton Elementary /Middle School, Barclay Elementary/Middle School, William Pinderhughes Elementary/Middle School, Grove Park Elementary/Middle School, and Winston Middle School.
