Meet BMORENEWS' Shatina Phipps: New Kid on the Block
(BALTIMORE - July 23, 2012) - My name is Shatina Gale Phipps. I am a 32-year old Baltimore native. Having started off at Dunbar Senior High School, I graduated from Walbrook Uniform Service Academy in 2000. I am currently a full-time student at Baltimore City Community College working towards my Associate's degree in Education.
Some of my prior achievements include earning a Medical Assistance degree in 2008 and completing 90 hours in Child Care in 2009.
I love to write short stories, poems, edit other people's work, and to encourage people with a positive word. Additionally, I am the mother of four wonderful children: two girls (15 & 9) and two boys (7 & 2). In my free-time, I love to spend time with family and friends, my scrapbook, reading, writing, exercising, and exploring new opportunities.

Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.
