Fran Allen McKinney is originally from Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating from Central High School, she joined the miliary tand served nearly eight active duty years in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). Her military occupational specialty (MOS) was military law and subsequent to her honorable military service, McKinney graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business.
McKinney is the author of two self published books, How To Get An "A" In Life and Been Through... Going Through... The Journey. Additionally, she is currently the District Director (and also the former Deputy Campaign Manager) for Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Maryland, 7th Congressional District. Formerly she served as the Special Assistant to the Dean of the School of Biological Sciences at the University of California at Irvine.
In 1991, McKinney became the Owner and President of her first business, Allen Professional Group. She is now the President and CEO of Self Development Success (SDS), providing services for leadership coaching and non-profit fundraising, which she currently owns and operates with her husband, Richard.

President Obama today announced the charities that will receive a portion of the $1.4 million award that comes with the Nobel peace prize.
“These organizations do extraordinary work in the United States and abroad helping students, veterans and countless others in need,” said President Obama. “I’m proud to support their work.”
