MEET Jessica Marie Smith, Founder and Director of Culture Kingdom Kids™
(PRINCE GEORGE'S - November 2, 2012) - Jessica Marie Smith holds a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Education and African American Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. For the past decade, she has worked as a teaching artist,director, playwright, dancer, choreographer and curriculum writer.
Smith has also done extensive work with organizations such as Art 180, Camp Diva, High Tea Society, and Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre Programs. She has also directed arts programs for Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission,Happily Natural Day Festival in Richmond, VA, the Fellowship For United Methodist Musicians and Worship Artists and a host of schools, churches, and community centers throughout the country.
Ms. Smith's proudest accomplishment is being the founder and director of Culture Kingdom Kids™, a creative arts company that produces educational children’s programs that celebrate African-American cultures.
Since 2010, Culture Kingdom Kids has promoted cultural heritage and awareness values through fun and interactive performances and workshops at schools, festivals, community centers and museums including the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum, the Prince George’s African American Museum, the Alexandria Black History Museum and the Reginald Lewis Museum for Maryland African American History and Culture.
In 2011, Ms. Smith was honored to receive the Africa Showcase Award for Excellence In Children's Cultural Programs. In January 2012, the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund recognized founder Jessica Smith as one of the Top 40 Under Forty residents for her contributions to the field of Education through her work with Culture Kingdom Kids.
In her spare time, Smith also works as the principal dancer in Black Notes jazz band at Bohemian Caverns on the historic U Street corridor of Washington, D.C.

Prince George's County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers will take part in the Annual Appalachian Search & Rescue Conference Full Scale Exercise on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Green Ridge State Forest Park in Flintstone, Maryland. Twenty CERT volunteers will have an opportunity to practice their search and rescue skills as the scenario involves finding a lost family on the grounds of Green Ridge State Forest Park. Some of the CERT volunteers will participate as actors and actresses to role-play various scenarios, while others will participate on the search team. Read in Full >>
