(BALTIMORE - June 23, 2009) - It  is my pleasure to  welcome all visitors to the Eighth Annual African American Heritage Festival.

The three-day festival begins Friday, July 3rd and runs through Sunday, July 5th at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.  Over the course of this weekend, all of the region and nation will experience the richness of African American history, culture and heritage.

While I am proud to celebrate African contributions to the history and culture of America, I am also proud to remind Marylanders that this is a festival open to all people to experience and enjoy.  In its eighth year, the African American Heritage Festival has become one of the largest premier events in the country. The Festival has drawn 300,000 attendees each of the first seven years and expects even more in 2009 with a new site design and layout.
National entertainment headliners include Anita Baker, Teena Marie, En Vogue, Toni Toni Tone, Terence Blanchard, Laura Izibor, and Fertile Ground.

Visitors will be enriched by African American history with activities that enhance cultures within the African Diaspora.  Additionally, guests will experience interactive exhibitions, performing arts and seminars to expand knowledge in areas such as financial empowerment, home ownership, health, arts, history, education and career development.

Each day will be filled with excitement, fun and family friendly activities.

National entertainment headliners include Anita Baker, Teena Marie, En Vogue, Toni Toni Tone, Terence Blanchard, Laura Izibor, and Fertile Ground. Further, more than 50 community and non-profit organizations from across the region are expected to  participate in the festival, including representatives of the diverse neighborhoods of Baltimore.

I want to offer a special thanks to the dedicated volunteers, festival committee and Board members who continue to support the AAHF Foundation, the generosity of our various sponsors, and the City of Baltimore.  The festival would not be possible without their unconditional and unwavering support.

Again, we at the AAHF Foundation would like to extend a personal welcome to all and hope that you enjoy the festivities!

Chairman, AAHF Foundation
