New York Times Best-Selling Author Omar Tyree to Present Talk at BCCC on His Better-Known Works
Author of “Flyy Girl,” “Boss Lady” and Business-Oriented Books Is
One of the Most Renowned Contemporary African American Writers
(BALTIMORE - October 13, 2009) - New York Times best-selling author Omar Tyree—whose Baltimore area readership currently dwarfs that of many other writers—will speak at Baltimore City Community College Wednesday, Oct. 21 at noon and 7 p.m., in the Mini Conference Center of the Liberty Campus Main Building’s Fine Arts Wing, 2901 Liberty Heights Ave.
Tyree is a popular speaker on both the collegiate and corporate circuits. Having published 16 novels, five anthologies and one children’s book, he is one of the best known African American writers of urban contemporary fiction. In 2001, he received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literature in Fiction. He is also a Phyllis Wheatley Literary Award winner, recognized in 2006 for his body of work in Urban Fiction.
Tyree’s most recent work, “The Equation,” a non-fictional primer for business people seeking new ways to focus, innovate and compete, has become the basis of his popular “Equation for Life” lectures.
“We are very excited to host Mr. Tyree,” said Virgie Williams, BCCC assistant director of libraries. “Having met him at BookExpo America in New York earlier this year, I was impressed with his accessibility and diverse array of undertakings. We can’t keep his books on our shelves!”

(BALTIMORE - February 9, 2010) - According to one Baltimore City Police officer stationed in Sandtown, downtown is plowed, Baltimore County is plowed, Carroll County is plowed (he lives there), but he didn't understand why communities - like in West Baltimore - were still left undone.
Fender-benders are not uncommon. The perpetual struggle between pedestrian rights and drivers' fear of getting stuck is ubiquitous. The question remains: Does anybody care about less affluent communities in one of the richest state's in the nation?
Yeah, yeah! We heard the governor announce there would be no additional funds for snow plowing.
Maybe we have to appeal to Pres. Barack Obama to send "state of emergency" dollars directly to municipalities ... like Baltimore. Or, maybe directly outsource dollars to snow removal companies. Whatever the case, this is some bull feces.
In a city where citizens get taxed to death for everything from parking tickets to cell phones, where is the love? Like the songwriter sings, "Ain't no love in the heart of the city!"
