Oscar-Nominated Actress Taraji P. Henson Lends Support to DreamKids

(WASHINGTON - May 21, 2009) - Last week at the DreamKids 2009 Gala at the Ritz-Carlton in DC, one of the featured honorees was Oscar-nominated actress (Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons) Taraji P. Henson. Henson, who received the President's Award, is from the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Further, she is a strong supporter of a non-profit, Art Creates Life (www.artcreateslife.org).
Other stars present included keynote speaker and Essence Magazine Editor-in-Chief Emeritus Susan Taylor, Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett, Jr. (who received the Legacy Award), and a performance by Grammy-winning artist BeBe Winans. Also present was singer Clifton Ross, III, who led the DreamKids choir in a wonderful rendition of a popular gospel song, "I'm Walking in Authority".
Proceeds from the event, the 8th Annual Power of a Dream Gala, go to U.S. Dream Academy after-school programs currently operating in 11 communities in 10 different American cities including Washington, DC and Baltimore.
The U.S. Dream Academy was founded by world-renown singer and CEO Wintley Phipps, a man who has graced Baltimore with his presence for many years.
