Pleasant Hope Baptist Church's 'Young Adult Spirituality Circle' Convenes

(BALTIMORE - September 29, 2012) - The Young Adult Spirituality Circle at PLEASANT HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH last night was amazing! 'Young Adults' are not empty vessels waiting to be filled or even entertained. We are beautiful, brilliant, critical thinkers with convictions and ideas about God and Life. So very thankful that we are creating safe space at Pleasant Hope for real-world discussions and questions that have tangible relevance to our daily lives. I'm a better pastor this morning because of what I learned from these 'Young Adults' last night.

Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.
