92Q's Marc Clarke, producer Sonjay were released from Radio One this week. Troy Johnson leaves WHFS
“I ‘m going to move on to the next great thing. I know it will be something, either radio or television, as long as it’s not the Room Store.”
(BALTIMORE – November 11, 2008) – “It’s a rough week. It’s unfortunate. Change came a day earlier for me,” said radio personality Troy Johnson.
On Monday, the former host of the midday talk show at CBS’ 105.7 WHFS was told his days there had ended. According to DCRTV Plus, the station has flipped to sports talk WJZ-FM.
Before that gig, Johnson first gained fame as an original member of 92Q’s Big Phat Morning Show on the Radio One network with Marva and Marc Clarke. Johnson and Marva were let go, incidentally, at the same time.
This week, Marc Clarke, the last one of the team, was fired along with producer Sonjay.
DCRTV Plus reported the station, 92Q, may go syndicated in the mornings.
Johnson told BMORENEWS.com in an exclusive interview, “There are very few places where you can get radio dialogue on what’s going on around the world as it relates to Baltimore.” He added, “I know from the feedback of listeners that they liked what we were doing with the show, especially with the result of the election on Tuesday. There’s a lot more to talk about now, like this great moment in history.”
When asked what’s next, he replied, “I ‘m going to move on to the next great thing. I know it will be something, either radio or television, as long as it’s not the Room Store.”
When asked his thoughts on the end of the #1 radio show that he helped build, he responded, “It’s sad to see something you help build finally end. Marc and I have been friends for 16 years. We came to Baltimore to build the Big Phat Morning Show. It’s sad to see the end of something that you put all your hard work in. If it’s bad for me, it’s only sadder because now someone I love and care about is not doing what he should be doing on the radio. But we will persevere.”
Clarke replied to BMORENEWS.com questions about his sudden departure, “Thanks Baltimore for all the support. I will miss you.”
