From the Mississippi Delta retraces Holland’s impoverished upbringing in segregated Greenwood, Mississippi and her activism during the Civil Rights Movement. Her transformative journey is an uplifting story of struggle and success, against incredible odds, that takes her from abject poverty, to prostitution, to a Ph.D., to success as a playwright.
Partially financed by Oprah Winfrey, From the Mississippi Delta made its Off-Broadway debut in 1991 at the Circle in the Square Downtown. Directed by Jonathan Wilson, it starred Cheryl Lynn Bruce, Sybil Walker and Jacqueline Williams. The three actresses portrayed the author at various stages of her life and all the supporting characters, as well – black and white, young and old, men and women – who made Dr. Holland’s world come alive. Set in 11 anecdotal scenes bridged by hymns and spirituals, the production ran for 218 performances.

The Glover Report: It's Election Time!:
Whether it's Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta - wherever, black people have to come to better understand a Delegate from a state Senator and a state Senator from a US Senator. We have to understand what the local Council does, what the state assembly does, and what is done in Congress. We also have to understand the legislation they write and who it impacts. Classic example: prisons. Somebody is voting for more and more prisons. My issue is that too many people who look just like me keep filling these cells. Currently, America has the Gold! It incarcerates 25% of the world's inmates, 40% who are black and male ... like me.
