Dakshina premieres in Baltimore!
Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company will showcase Anna Sokolow's pivotal work Dreams at the Baltimore Theatre Project, along with their signature program featuring the Baltimore premiere of Karna, a Bharata Natyam piece, an ancient Indian dance form known for its use of symmetry, angular lines, rhythmic footwork and interpretative mime that explores spiritual and philosophical themes.

New York nationally-recognized theologian, Reverend Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood, in association with St. Paul Community Baptist Church, presents The MAAFA SUITE...A Healing Journey®, a controversial reenactment of American slavery. The off Broadway psychodrama is expected to draw a crowd of over 5,000 attendees to the Brooklyn, New York house of worship for a riveting reenactment of the journey from Africa to America. A journey that was endured by over 100 million Africans through the "Middle Passage" during a period in history known as the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Mario vs. Melo: Baltimore Celebs Host Weekend of Events (Sept. 3, 4 & 5):
NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony and R&B Sensation Mario Barrett have joined forces on behalf of Baltimore’s young people. The two Baltimore-born celebrities will host the “Melo & Mario Face-Off Weekend” from Thursday, September 3rd to Saturday, September 5th, 2009. With an action-packed line-up, the weekend will feature both private and public events that will highlight both men’s foundations.
The kickoff press conference is on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 4 pm at the Carmelo Anthony Center at 1100 E. Fayette Street. Attendees include Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon. The highlight of this event is the distribution of school supplies to hundreds of Baltimore youths.
