SAGE: A Softer Side of B-more…
By Tika M.
(BALTIMORE - November 27, 2009) - Home of HBO’s television show "The Wire", political scandals, indictments, drugs, and gang violence ushers three sisters to salute building better communities and brighter futures. The rough streets of Baltimore often obscurely portrayed in the media, now has a softer side: Sage. Winning over the ears and hearts of people of all ages with their catchy tunes and eclectic sounds, Sage is comprised of three biological sisters from Baltimore - Rell, Muffin, and Melody. The birth-name, SAGE, derived from the original name of their former gospel group, “Sisters of Agape”, given to their mother in a dream. The acronym S.A.G.E. stands for “Sisters of Agape with Essence.”
Products of Deeper Life Church at the Cathedral-Healthy Choice Ministries International located in West Baltimore, presiding prelate Bishop Dr. Aubrey A. Harley says, “Sage is living a “PIMP” lifestyle: principles, integrity, miracles and peace.”
With talented and raw vocal performances, each sister can create lyrics with the ebb and flow of their own pens. Their words lift off the page and breathe passionate experiences that anyone can relate to. Their tight-knit harmony ravishes a spiritual wave of hypnotism with such musical influences as En Vogue, the Clark Sisters, SWV, TLC, Mary J. Blige and the Anointed Pace Sisters, to name a few. Vocal instructor/opera singer Carol Wescott, formerly of the Peabody Institute, coached their undaunted and intrinsic singing and writing skills. While residing for three years in North Hollywood, the group collaborated with noted producers and musicians. This musical collaboration evolved into Sage’s first independent compilation album entitled “More Than A Harmony Volume 1” predominantly co-produced with their production family, Bottom Dwellerz. SAGE has graced many stages from Cali back to the East Coast. Noted SAGE performances include opening for R&B soul artist Aaron Hall and Neo-soul Hippie rock star, Raheem DeVaughn.
Next to the stage, the music studio is Sage’s home away from home. Be sure to follow these songbirds on an exciting journey through their world of music on their next compilation Album, “More Than A Harmony Volume 2” to be released January 2010.
As Indie artists, they have developed an entrepreneurial business savvy and professional team predestined to launch a successful brand. Their creed originated from personal Life Coach & Motivational Speaker JD DeQuair of New Orleans, Louisiana, who defines Sage as “Strong like a Lion, Gentle as a Flower, Proud like a Peacock and Wise as an Owl.”
Sage resides in Baltimore City, and their latest works are centered on an emerging non-profit youth organization focused on fashion, art, music and education. They can surely be referred to as Art-ivists, meaning a combination of artists and community activists.
“Although we are performing artists and songwriters, we believe in reaching back as we reach forward in hopes of preparing our youth to become productive members of society in the Arts and beyond.”— SAGE
SAGE was recently interviewed by Lance Lucas on 1010 AM radio, courtesy of Doni Glover. See the unveiling of Baltimore’s best kept secret, Sage, at BMORENEWS.com Benefit & Publisher's 15th Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, December 17, 2009. If you think Sage is new to the game, think again; The only thing new is the history. SAGE is “blowin’” up B-more!

TGR: Will Leronia Josey Make County History?:
Baltimore County Councilman Ken Oliver could have his hands full this election season - that is, if Ms. Josey decides to put her bid in for his seat. While Oliver is the first black to serve on the County Council, a loss to Josey would make her the first black woman to serve on the Baltimore County Council - a crew that consists mostly of white males. Move over, guys!
A black president; a possible black governor; seems only logical to me.

Jim Morrison said that ‘whoever controls the media controls the mind!’ Yet today’s media has seemed to have shifted it’s interest from responsible investigative reporting to a more instant on-demand format of sound bytes and hybrid headlines.
From the advent of social media tools such as YouTube and Facebook to the reduction in senior staff and publications of print media, the lack of real journalism has ceased to exist. However who is truly to be blamed, the reporters’ who spew the untruth without proper fact checks or the consumers of such information who propagate this gossip as factual?

Despite all that is messed up, I am taken back to grandma’s favorite hymn, #325, in the good ol’ Baptist Hymnal: “We’ll understand it better bye and bye.” I’m taken back to the praying man’s visit every Monday at 4 pm and the long, long prayers he would utter. I think of drinking tea and eating Graham crackers with grandpop before grandma got home.
Friends, it is easy to focus on the negative. It is easy to throw the towel in on life. It is easy to concede, to give up, to quit. I don’t know about you, but I refuse to do so. I just can’t. I won’t. There is a certain sense of entitlement of expanded territory that I simply demand of myself and those around me, as ordained by God. I say, mediocrity is for the lame. This kid here expects the very best that God has to offer. Come hell or high water, I’ll just have to take the hits; but progress, I insist, is imminent.
