Reading and discussion with author
Just as other ethnic cultures pass along the tradition of transitioning from childhood into adulthood, author, Armentha Cruise argues that it should be the same for African American children. We have lost our cultural traditions along the way, she says. Throughout the history of African Americans our time has been spent trying to survive and provide which has taken away from the time that could have been used to pass along vital history from generation to generation. “Awakened Through the Passage” is a movement to re-create that tradition. A tradition that will enhance the lives of our youth with empowerment, self-sufficiency, and pride.
The author’s vision is to have African American youth who can partake in their transition ceremonies, just as the Jewish culture does with Bat Mitzvahs and Bar Mitzvas. During this transitory period, she wants them to be able to say with pride, “Yes, and I am preparing to go through my Rites of Passage Awakening Ceremony; which prepares me for wealth creation in mind, body, spirit and financial empowerment”.
“Awakened Through the Passage” explains/introduces the Rites of Passage which is a step-by-step process to achieve empowerment and self-sufficiency for our youth by uncovering our hidden and stolen knowledge.
